SL's Fan Character Do's and Don'ts..

PREMISE.

THIS IS NOT A GUIDE OR A TUTORIAL.
The fan character process is a slow process of realization, growing up and creaivity.
Don't create a character based on this guide. but watch out for it.


SPECIES.

It is better not to travel down the road most traveled, but to create your own path and leave a trail.

Basically meaning that you should select a speices other than the following:

Hedgehogs
Foxes
Echidnas
Cats

Even SEGA has too many hedgehogs. Just how common are hedgehog's anyway?

90% of the fan characters are infact hedgehogs.

Try doing something better like a monkey or a gazelle or something.

I wouldn't recomend doing something like a tiger though, because you would have to be an orange character with stripes so people know what the hell you are.

Also GIVING YOUR FOX CHARACTERS 9 OR SO TAILS ISNT ORIGINAL, ITS CLUTTERED, and it just SUCKS.
DONT.
FOCUSSING ON TRAITS.

If your character is a hedgehog please PLEASE PLEASE. For the love of GOD do not use the same quils as sonic or shadow and just add a little tuft of hair comming out of his head.

IT IS JUST AS GENERIC.

It is important to focus on eye catching and memorable traits. This can involve mutations of the ears to look spiky or something, or having an odd tail. Or giving them an iconic medal or something

Having magical marks is very generic, and if you fail to pull it off it will make your character suck.

ABILITIES.

Abilities.

Every character is bound to have them.

What to choose though?

Fire? Ice? Water? Electricity? Grass? Psychic?

HaHaHaNoneofthese.

Why? Because its too simple. Any Jackass can just say that OH MY CHARACTER USES FIRE.
Fire is the most generic element by the way. EVERYONE AND THEIR GRANDMOTHER HAS FIRE.

Same with Ice.

And creating a crossbreed between 2 elements is just as lame as attaching one element no matter how you look at it.

My character uses Fire too, but i made it more original (ithink) by him actually having to firce the bodyheat out of his body, creating fire. Meaning he cant create fireballs in his hand. He would have to thrust his hand up and the fire would rise and disperse anyway. He can also use the heat of his breath to make fire.

This is better, but still generic no matter how you look at it.

How about an ability that uses the blood in people's body to make evil clones of them or some crap.
Blood powers? Maybe. Sounds a bit weird though.

You COULD go with a physical power. psychical powers have a lot of possibilities.

Secondary Abilities

The non magical abilities.

Im gonna say this once.

SONIC IS THE FASTEST THING ALIVE. sonic characters are fast but DAMN.
SHADOW IS THE ULTIMATE LIFE FORM. if your character uses chaos powers then F u.
KNUCKLES HAS SPIKES ON HIS GLOVES. Echidnas shoudlnt just BE strong for 0 reason.
TAILS FLIES. Though others can fly too, tails should fly with his TAILS. your characters fly with wings or powers.

If you do this then Fk u lol.

STORY

If your character is Sonic's Son, Shadow's Son or Knuckles' or Tails' son...ect...ect.

You just SUCK, AT MAKING STORIES. Tres here sucks at making a story for his character but is unwilling to change that, though its terrible. He doesn't have to, but it sucks.

Okay, also the character shouldnt be the last of his clan and an orpham. THERE ARE WAY TO MANY ORPHANS. God the orphanariums must be full.

Also the character isn't OMG mad because a villan killed his father or some crap.

Also the SPIRTIZ OF TEH SEVEN CHAOS EMERALDZ Sucks as atory. seriously your character should never even touch a freakin chaos emerald.

The Dark emeralds suck. Seriously, TEH DARK EMERALDZ CORRUPT SAWNEEK.

LOVE

I don't do love in my story. but If for some reason you make shadow your charcters BF. then STFO and GTFO

Thats all I have to say. Dont make your character become "An Hero" and just die at the end for his true love.

Also some stories may be "love at first sight" but they wouldnt fall in OMG TROO LOVE and makeout the first time they see eachother. Wouldnt the 2 characters be more curious to find out more about their partner?

Also don't make the female characters so weak. its getting old.

Well, you did point out most things that I didn't, but a little more description as to why you should avoid it would have been nice. Also, directly pointing out people's names, I find to be offensive. (although it was only one)

Well, with all these guides around, you'd think people will take a hint. At least I hope everyone does. (not counting the people who already know)

Except for the Hedgemonkey and the Mongoose.

I'm mainly referring to the people here. I've seen some really bad characters and RP'ers here.

Your character isn't to generic. Just the name Razor.

Maybe some issues there and there on my version of your pic, but it has a lot of good stuff you should pay mind to.
